Choreographer Joachim Maudet, winner of the SACD’s “2024 New Choreography Talent Award”, has devised a burlesque trio in which bodies move in slow motion, bewildered faces, and witty dialogues rub and overlap, never quite aligning.

On stage, two women and one man maintain a precarious balance to the sound of astonishing gibberish, which gradually slides into absurd territory. But who exactly is speaking, given that the dancers’ lips aren’t moving? Using the magic of ventriloquism – which creates an astonishing disconnect between what is said, signified, and interpreted – both laughter and a disquieting sense of strangeness emerge. Making human contradictions and the journeys of our inner voices perceptible, Welcome leaves us suspended on the immobile lips of its three performers.
